Questions & Answers about В комнате тепло и очень уютно.
Why isn't there a word for "it is" in this sentence?
In Russian, general conditions of the environment or weather use impersonal sentences. You just use the short adverb forms ending in -о, like тепло (warm) and уютно (cozy). You don't need a dummy subject like "it" or a verb like "is" in the present tense.
The lesson mentions using the Dative case for states. Why isn't there a Dative word here?
If you want to say exactly who is feeling warm, you would add a Dative pronoun or noun, like мне тепло (I am warm) or Анне уютно (Anna is cozy). Since this sentence describes the general atmosphere of the room rather than a specific person's feelings, no Dative word is needed.
Why do we use the -о ending (тепло, уютно) instead of adjective endings like тёплая or уютная?
Adjectives modify a specific noun, like in the phrase тёплая комната (a warm room). However, this sentence is impersonal and doesn't have a subject noun. To describe an overall state or condition without a subject, Russian uses the adverb form ending in -о.
Why is it в комнате instead of just в комната?
The preposition в (in) requires the Prepositional case when you are talking about a location. The dictionary form комната (room) changes its feminine ending from -а to -е to show where this warm, cozy state is happening.
