Questions & Answers about Они часто ездят туда на поезде.
Why do we use ездят here instead of едут?
The word часто (often) tells us this is a repeated habit. For regular round trips or habits, we use the multidirectional verb ездить. If they were making a single, one-way trip right this second, we would use the unidirectional verb едут.
Why not use the verb ходят for "go"?
Because they are travelling на поезде (by train). In Russian, you must use a riding or driving verb like ездить when going by a vehicle. The verb ходить strictly means to go on foot.
Why is the word for "there" туда instead of там?
English uses "there" for both being in a place and going to a place. Russian has two separate words: там is for location (being there) and туда is for direction (going to there). Since this sentence is about motion towards a destination, we need туда.
How does the grammar for на поезде (by train) work?
To say you travel "by" a certain type of vehicle, Russian uses the preposition на followed by the Prepositional case. The dictionary form of the word is поезд, and adding the -е ending makes it на поезде.
