Questions & Answers about Banca nu acceptă numerarul murdar.
Why use numerar for cash instead of bani or the loanword cash?
While bani means money in general and cash is popular in everyday slang, numerar is the standard formal and legal term for physical currency. It is exactly the vocabulary you would expect in an official banking or business context.
Does murdar mean physically dirty here, or does it mean illegal "dirty money"?
It can mean both, depending on context, exactly as in English. It could refer to physically soiled or contaminated banknotes, but it is also the standard terminology for illicit funds, such as in the context of money laundering (spălare de bani).
Why is the definite article -ul attached to numerarul if the English translation often drops "the" for general concepts?
In Romanian, uncountable mass nouns used in a general or categorical sense almost always require the definite article, especially when they are restricted or described by an adjective like murdar.
The verb is acceptă. Why doesn't it use the -ează ending like many other modern verbs ending in "-a"?
The verb a accepta is a classic trap for learners because it does not take the -ează extension. It is conjugated simply as eu accept, tu accepți, el/ea acceptă. Saying "acceptează" is a very common mistake, but it is strictly incorrect.
