Questions & Answers about Vorbesc puțin română.
Where is the word for "I" in this sentence?
In Romanian, you usually do not need to say the subject pronoun like eu (I) because the verb ending already tells you who is doing the action. Vorbesc means "I speak" (it can also mean "they speak", but context usually makes it obvious when you are talking about yourself).
Why is it just română instead of limba română?
When talking about speaking a language, Romanians often use just the feminine adjective as a shortcut. Saying vorbesc română is perfectly natural, just like saying "I speak Romanian" in English. You can also say vorbesc limba română (I speak the Romanian language), which means exactly the same thing.
Does the word puțin (a little) change to match the feminine word română?
I sometimes see românește instead of română when people talk about speaking the language. What is the difference?
