Learn Romanian: Nu găsesc bagajul la aeroport! - I cannot find the luggage at the airport!

In Romanian, it is very common to use just the negative present tense (nu găsesc - literally "I do not find") to mean you are unable to do something in the moment. You do not necessarily need to add the verb for "can" (a putea).

How do we know it means "I" cannot find, since the word eu (I) is not in the sentence?

The verb itself tells you! Găsesc is the "I" form of the verb a găsi (to find). Romanian often drops subject pronouns like eu because the ending of the verb already shows exactly who is doing the action.

How does the word bagajul get its meaning of "the luggage"?

In Romanian, the word for "the" (the definite article) attaches to the end of the noun rather than sitting in front of it. The base word is bagaj (luggage), and adding -ul to the end makes it bagajul (the luggage).

Why is it la aeroport instead of la aeroportul if we are saying "at the airport"?

After simple prepositions like la (at/to) or în (in), Romanian usually drops the attached "the" when referring to a general location. So, instead of using the full "the" form, it becomes just la aeroport.
