Questions & Answers about Puteți să rămâneți mâine?
Why do we use să between puteți and rămâneți?
In English, we say 'can stay' using the base dictionary form of the verb. Romanian does things differently! When you connect two verbs like this, you use the connecting word să plus a conjugated verb. It literally means 'Can you that you stay?'
Why do both verbs end in -ți?
Because of the să rule! After să, the second verb is conjugated to match the person doing the action. Since 'you' are the one able to stay (puteți) and 'you' are the one actually staying (rămâneți), both verbs take the 'you' ending.
Can this sentence be used to speak to just one person?
How do we know this is a question if the word order is the same as a statement?
Romanian does not rearrange words or use helper words to make questions. You simply take the statement form ('You can stay tomorrow') and raise your voice at the end. In writing, the question mark is the only difference.
