The Future Perfect
When managing projects or forecasting, you often need to talk about actions that will have been completed before a specific time in the future.
In Romanian, the future perfect (viitorul anterior) is formed using three parts: the future auxiliary verb, the invariable word fi, and the past participle of the main verb.
Here is the pattern using the verb a ajusta (to adjust):
| Person | Future Auxiliary | Invariable | Past Participle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eu | voi | fi | ajustat |
| Tu | vei | fi | ajustat |
| El / Ea | va | fi | ajustat |
| Noi | vom | fi | ajustat |
| Voi | veți | fi | ajustat |
| Ei / Ele | vor | fi | ajustat |
Setting a Deadline
The future perfect is frequently paired with time expressions that establish a deadline, such as până la (by / until) or înaintea (before).
| By the deadline, she will have delivered the documentation. | Până la termenul-limită, ea va fi livrat documentația. |
| By the next quarter, we will have adjusted the forecast. | Până la trimestrul următor, vom fi ajustat prognoza. |
Questions and Negatives
To ask a question, simply use rising intonation. To make a negative statement, place nu directly before the future auxiliary verb.
| Will you have checked the stage of the project with the supplier? | Veți fi verificat stadiul proiectului cu furnizorul? |
| What a short deadline! They will not have adjusted the plan by then. | Ce termen-limită scurt! Ei nu vor fi ajustat planul până atunci. |
| By then, the analysts will have anticipated this result. | Până atunci, analiștii vor fi anticipat acest rezultat. |
Anticipating Results
Whether you are looking at specific dates or comparing events, the structure remains exactly the same. Notice how the past participle does not change form.
| By the fifteenth, she will have signed the documentation. | Până pe cincisprezece, ea va fi semnat documentația. |
| I will have anticipated the problem before the new forecast. | Voi fi anticipat problema înaintea noii prognoze. |
