Refueling at the Gas Station

Stopping to Refuel

When taking a long trip, you will eventually need to pull into a gas station (benzinăria). To say "to refuel" in Romanian, use the verb a alimenta. Once there, look for an available pump (pompa).

We must stop at the next gas station.
Trebuie să oprim la benzinăria următoare.
He refueled quickly and asked for the invoice.
El a alimentat rapid și a cerut factura.
This pump is blue, and the red one is free.
Această pompă este albastră, iar cea roșie este liberă.

Choosing Your Fuel

Next, select the correct fuel (combustibilul)—pay close attention to whether your car takes gasoline (benzina) or diesel (motorina)! To fill up, grab the hose (furtunul) and insert it into the tank (rezervorul).

His car uses only gasoline.
Mașina lui folosește doar benzină.
The diesel is as expensive as the gasoline.
Motorina este la fel de scumpă ca benzina.
The car's tank is already empty.
Rezervorul mașinii este deja gol.
Pull the hose very close to the car, please.
Trage furtunul foarte aproape de mașină, te rog.

Under the Hood

While stopped, it's a good time for routine checks. You might open the hood (capota) to check the oil, or check the tire pressure (presiunea) before getting back on the road.

You must open the hood immediately.
Trebuie să deschizi capota imediat.
Check both the oil and the pressure in the tires.
Verifică atât uleiul, cât și presiunea din anvelope.
