Wishing someone well
Însănătoșire grabnică! (literally a speedy recovery) is the Romanian get well soon!, said or written to someone who is ill. To send the wish to a third person, use a dori with the dative: îi dorim tatălui tău însănătoșire grabnică.
How do you like it?
Mi se pare gives your impression. Turn it into a question with cum ți se pare …? (literally how does … seem to you?), and ask for a first reaction to something concrete: a film, a flat, an idea. To someone you call dumneavoastră, say cum vi se pare? Ce părere ai? asks for a considered opinion.
For instance, to be precise
De pildă means the same as de exemplu, with a slightly more literary sound. Mai precis narrows down what you just said, exactly like mai exact.
Reacting
A se mira (to be surprised) is reflexive: mă mir, te miri, s-a mirat. What surprises you follows with că. Ieșit din comun (out of the ordinary) agrees like an adjective: un talent ieșit din comun, o zi ieșită din comun.
Pardon is a light sorry: when you bump into someone, squeeze past, or correct a slip in mid-sentence.
| you want to | say |
|---|
| get past someone, correct a slip | pardon, scuze, scuzați (formal) |
| apologize properly | îmi pare rău, îmi cer scuze |
We'll see, who's to blame, what's best
Mai vedem (we'll see) leaves a decision open. Don't mix it up with ne vedem (see you). A fi de vină is to be to blame.
Preferabil is an adjective (preferable, with the dative for to) and also an adverb (preferably). To give advice, use e de preferat + să + the subjunctive (it's best to).
