Agreeing with "Neither"
To agree with a negative statement (saying "me neither" or "I don't either"), start the sentence with nici (neither/not even) followed by a stressed pronoun. Because Romanian uses double negation, the main verb must also be negative (using nu).
This is a great structure for bonding over shared dislikes, apathy, or mutual annoyances.
| I can't stand this unbearable and monotonous noise either. | Nici eu nu suport acest zgomot insuportabil și monoton. |
| This hypocritical guy keeps irritating me. I am not going to stand him either. | Tipul ăsta ipocrit mă tot irită. Nici eu nu o să-l suport. |
Matching the Pronoun Case
The pronoun after nici must match its grammatical role in the sentence.
For the subject of the sentence, use a Nominative pronoun (eu, tu, el, ea, noi, voi, ei, ele).
| He doesn't tolerate the chaos and mess here either. | Nici el nu tolerează haosul și mizeria de aici. |
For verbs requiring an indirect object, like a plăcea (to like), use a Dative pronoun (mie, ție, lui, ei, nouă, vouă, lor).
| I don't like the movie either, it is very boring. | Nici mie nu îmi place filmul, este foarte plictisitor. |
| You don't like the mess either, right? | Nici ție nu îți place mizeria, nu-i așa? |
For a direct object, use an Accusative pronoun preceded by pe (pe mine, pe tine, pe el, pe ea, pe noi, pe voi, pe ei, pe ele).
| His meanness and this monotonous work don't frustrate me either. | Nici pe mine nu mă frustrează răutatea lui și această muncă monotonă. |
