"Mine", "Yours", and "Theirs"
To say "mine," "yours," or "hers" without repeating the noun, combine a possessive article with a possessive adjective. The possessive article depends entirely on the gender and number of the object being owned, not the owner.
| Replaced Noun | Possessive Article | Example ("mine") |
|---|
| Masculine / Neuter Singular | al | al meu |
| Feminine Singular | a | a mea |
| Masculine Plural | ai | ai mei |
| Feminine / Neuter Plural | ale | ale mele |
For example, replacing a feminine singular noun like tableta (the tablet) uses a (a ta, a ei). Replacing a masculine/neuter singular noun like încărcătorul (the charger) uses al (al tău, al lui).
These pronouns can act as the subject of a sentence, replacing the noun completely.
Direct Objects and "pe"
When an independent possessive pronoun is the direct object of a verb, place the preposition pe in front of it (e.g., pe al meu, pe a ta).
Because you are referring to a specific, known object, you must also use a matching direct object pronoun (îl, o, îi, le) right before the verb.
Plural Owners
The pattern is the same for plural owners. The article at the front matches the object, while the adjective (nostru/noastră, vostru/voastră) matches the owners.
