Sorting and Folding
Let's go beyond the basics of washing clothes and learn the vocabulary for folding and fabric care.

When describing how clothes are treated, Romanian often uses the reflexive pronoun se to express general truths or passive actions, like "are washed" (se spală).

Laundry Mistakes
To express that you "almost" did something, use the fixed phrase era să followed by a subjunctive verb. This is especially useful when your clothes end up shrinking (a se micșora).

Handling Different Fabrics
The fabric or weave of a garment is țesătura. If it is synthetic (sintetic), you might need to know how to properly wring it out (a stoarce).

Hanging to Dry
You can hang (a atârna) clothes on a clothesline or a hanger (umerașul). Be careful not to leave them in the bright sun, or they might fade (a se decolora).
