Causal conjunctions (deoarece, fiindcă)

Explaining Why: "Deoarece"

When filling out an insurance claim for a minor fender-bender, you need to clearly state why the accident happened. To connect a cause to an effect, Romanian uses causal conjunctions.

One of the most common words for "because" or "since" is deoarece. It simply links your main sentence (the result) to the reason it happened.

I hit the bumper because I did not keep the distance.
Am lovit bara deoarece nu am păstrat distanța.
The damage is small, because the impact was not strong.
Dauna este mică, deoarece impactul nu a fost puternic.

Another Way to Say Because: "Fiindcă"

Romanian has a second, equally common word for "because" or "since": fiindcă.

Grammatically, fiindcă is a direct synonym for deoarece. You can use them interchangeably in almost any situation without changing the meaning of your sentence.

I could not slow down, since the road was too slippery.
Nu am putut încetini, fiindcă drumul a fost prea alunecos.
The insurance will pay, since the scratch is very clear.
Asigurarea va plăti, fiindcă zgârietura este foarte clară.

Building Your Claim Report

Whether you are explaining road conditions, driver errors, or insurance requirements, both deoarece and fiindcă work perfectly to justify what went wrong.

The car skidded because there was black ice on the street.
Mașina a alunecat deoarece era polei pe stradă.
Inattention is dangerous because you can hit a pedestrian.
Neatenția este periculoasă, fiindcă poți să lovești un pieton.
Do not move the car, because we are waiting for the police!
Nu mutați mașina, deoarece așteptăm poliția!
