| After class, I go home. | După curs, merg acasă. |
| I work until five o'clock. | Lucrez până la ora cinci. |
| meaning | with a noun | |
|---|---|---|
| înainte | before | înainte de curs |
| după | after | după curs |
| până | until | până la ora cinci |
Înainte needs de before a noun, and până usually takes la. După takes the noun directly.
Already, still, late
| It is already eight o'clock. | Este deja ora opt. |
| The child is still sleeping. | Copilul încă doarme. |
| The train is late. | Trenul întârzie. |
Încă means still; with nu it means not yet. Before o or un it means one more: încă o cafea.
From, since, every day
De la means from a place or a time, and pairs with până la. De când asks since when — and Romanian answers it with the PRESENT tense, where English uses have been.
| I work from eight o'clock until five o'clock. | Lucrez de la ora opt până la ora cinci. |
| How long have you lived here? | De când locuiești aici? |
| I have been waiting for two hours. | Aștept de două ore. |
| I read every day. | Citesc zilnic. |
The afternoon, and time
Like dimineața and seara, după-amiaza with its article means in the afternoon.
| In the afternoon I read. | După-amiaza citesc. |
| I don't have time. | Nu am timp. |
