Why do we use de ti instead of just tu or te?
The verb precisar (to need) always requires the preposition de after it. When the informal 'you' comes right after a preposition, you must use the stressed pronoun form ti instead of the subject pronoun tu or the object pronoun te.
Can I leave out the word Nós at the beginning?
Yes! Because the verb ending in precisamos already tells us that 'we' are doing the action, the word Nós is optional. You only need to include it if you really want to emphasize that we need you, as opposed to someone else.
If the sentence was 'We need him', would it be de ele?
The words are indeed de and ele, but they merge together! While the pronoun ele does not change its spelling to a special stressed form like tu does, the preposition de merges with ele to form the single word dele. So, 'We need him tomorrow' becomes Nós precisamos dele amanhã.
How do I know whether to use de ti, para ti, or a ti?
The preposition you use depends completely on the verb that comes before it. Because precisar is always followed by de, you must use de ti. If the verb was olhar (to look), which takes the preposition para, you would use para ti.
