Questions & Answers about O sofá verde é novo.
Why is it o sofá instead of a sofá if the word ends with the letter a?
Why does the word verde come after sofá?
In Portuguese, words that describe things (adjectives) usually come right after the noun they are describing. Instead of saying green sofa, you literally say sofa green (sofá verde).
Since sofá is masculine, why doesn't verde end in o just like novo does?
Adjectives that end in the letter e, like verde, are neutral and do not change. They are used for both masculine and feminine words. The word novo does change for gender, so it takes the masculine o ending to match sofá.
