When conjugating regular -ir verbs for he, she, or it (the third person singular) in the present tense, the ending is actually -e. You drop the -ir from abrir and add -e to get abre (opens). It shares this exact same ending with regular -er verbs!
Why is there no translation for the word "does" in the Portuguese sentence?
Portuguese does not use helper verbs like "do" or "does" to make a sentence negative. To say "does not open", you simply place não (not) directly in front of the main verb: não abre.
How do we know from the Portuguese sentence that the doctor is female?
