Why is the word for 'our' nasze and not nasi?
In Polish, plural nouns are divided into two categories: masculine-personal (groups including at least one man) and non-masculine-personal (everything else, including women, objects, and animals). Since kury (hens) are animals, they fall into the second category, so we use the non-masculine-personal pronoun nasze.
How does the singular word kura change to become the plural kury?
Kura is a feminine noun ending in -a. To make it plural in the nominative case (used for the subject of the sentence), we drop the -a and add -y.
