Questions & Answers about Ona ma ładną twarz.
Why does the adjective end in -ą (ładną) but the noun ends in a consonant (twarz)? Shouldn't their endings match?
Twarz is a feminine noun, even though it ends in a consonant. The verb ma requires the accusative case for its direct object. The adjective takes the regular feminine accusative ending -ą to become ładną. However, feminine nouns that end in a consonant don't change their form in the accusative, so twarz stays exactly the same!
How can I tell that a noun ending in a consonant like twarz is feminine?
Could I just say "Ma ładną twarz" without the word "Ona"?
Yes, you can! Polish often drops the subject pronoun because the verb ma already tells us it means he, she, or it has. Including Ona here makes it perfectly clear that you are talking about a female, or it adds a bit of emphasis to the word she.
