Learn Polish: Ten weekend nam bardzo odpowiada. - This weekend suits us very much.

nam is the Dative form of my (we). The verb odpowiadać requires the Dative case because the weekend is suiting to us. You would use nas for the Accusative or Genitive cases, which do not apply here.

I thought odpowiadać meant "to answer". Can it also mean "to suit"?

Yes! While odpowiadać often means "to answer" or "to reply", it is also the standard way to say that something "suits" you or is convenient. Both meanings require the Dative case for the person you are answering or suiting.

Could I put nam at the end and say Ten weekend bardzo odpowiada nam?

It is grammatically possible, but pronouns like nam usually avoid the very end of a sentence unless you want to put special emphasis on them (as in, it suits us, not someone else). Putting it earlier in the sentence is the most natural, neutral word order.

Why do we use ten with the English word weekend?

weekend is a masculine inanimate noun in Polish. Because it is masculine, it pairs with the masculine word for "this", which is ten. It is the subject of the sentence, so it is in the Nominative case.
