Questions & Answers about Dzięki! Jesteś bardzo dobry.
Why does it say "dzięki" instead of "dziękuję"?
Dzięki is an informal way to say "thanks," used with friends, family, or people you are on casual terms with. Dziękuję is the standard, more polite "thank you."
I thought "dobry" meant "good", like in "dzień dobry". Why is it translated as "kind" here?
In Polish, dobry literally means "good." When describing a person's character, calling someone "good" translates naturally to "kind" or "nice" in English.
How do we know the sentence means "You are" when there is no word for "you"?
In Polish, the verb ending tells you who is doing the action. Jesteś is the "you" (singular, informal) form of the verb być (to be). Because the verb already includes "you", Polish usually drops the pronoun ty unless you want to add special emphasis.
