Questions & Answers about Kibice piją piwo i głośno rozmawiają.
How do we form the plural kibice from the singular word for a fan?
The singular word is kibic. Because it is a virile (masculine personal) noun ending in the soft consonant -c, we add -e to make it plural. This is why it doesn't take the -i or -y endings you see on some other masculine nouns.
Why do the verbs piją and rozmawiają both end in -ą?
The -ą ending on a verb tells you that 'they' are doing the action. It is the standard present-tense ending for verbs in the third-person plural, giving us 'they drink' and 'they talk'.
Since piwo is the thing being drunk, shouldn't it be in the accusative case? Why didn't the word change?
It actually is in the accusative case! The word piwo is a neuter noun. A very handy rule in Polish is that neuter nouns always look exactly the same in the accusative case as they do in the basic dictionary (nominative) case.
Does the word głośno have to go before rozmawiają?
Not necessarily. Polish word order is quite flexible, so rozmawiają głośno is also completely correct. However, putting an adverb like głośno (loudly) right before the verb it describes is very natural and common.
