Why does the word for kindergarten change to przedszkola?
The preposition do (to) always requires the Genitive case. The dictionary form of the word is przedszkole (a neuter noun). To form the Genitive for neuter nouns ending in -e, we drop the -e and add -a, resulting in do przedszkola.
Does chodzić mean the child walks to kindergarten on foot?
Not necessarily! While chodzić does mean "to go on foot", it is also the standard Polish verb for attending an institution regularly. Saying someone "goes to kindergarten" or "goes to school" means they are enrolled and attend it, regardless of whether they walk, take a bus, or get driven.
