Turning Out
When you discover the truth about a situation, you can use the reflexive verb okazywać się (to turn out). This is an imperfective verb, perfect for talking about things that frequently or generally turn out to be true (or false!).
You will usually use this verb impersonally. In the present tense, it takes the third-person singular form okazuje się. To state the facts of the situation, follow it with a że (that) clause.
| It often turns out that a widespread opinion is nonsense. | Często okazuje się, że powszechna opinia to bzdura. |
The Final Result
To talk about a specific, completed discovery—like the result of a single fact-check—use the perfective counterpart okazać się. Because these discoveries usually happened in the past, you will use the neuter third-person singular form okazało się (it turned out).
You will often contrast what turned out to be true with what you initially thought. To express what "seemed" to be true to someone, use the verb wydawać się paired with a Dative experiencer (like mi).

Fact-Checking and Investigations
Urban legends and fake stories often require an eksperyment (experiment) or a formal śledztwo (investigation) to uncover the truth. You can use okazało się, że to introduce the conclusion of your research.
| After this experiment, it turned out that the article is untrue. | Po tym eksperymencie okazało się, że artykuł jest nieprawdziwy. |
| During the investigation, it turned out that the politician made up this story. | Podczas śledztwa okazało się, że polityk wymyślił tę historię. |
Busting Myths
When a story is nieprawdziwy (untrue), it usually means someone made it up (wymyślić). Sometimes people are just naiwny (naive) enough to believe it.
