Promising and reassuring

I give you my word (dać słowo)

daję słowo — I give you my word — the strongest everyday promise. As an infinitive it is dać słowo.

to assure (zapewniam cię, że...)

zapewniać — to assure: zapewniam cię, że… (I assure you that…). The person is in the Accusative.

to count on (+ Accusative)

liczyć na + Accusative — to count on: możesz na mnie liczyć (you can count on me), liczę na twoją pomoc.

Advising for and against

if I were you (na twoim / pana / pani miejscu + conditional)

na twoim miejscu — if I were you (literally "in your place") — is followed by the CONDITIONAL: na twoim miejscu zadzwoniłabym… With pan/pani: na pana miejscu, na pani miejscu.

to advise against (+ Dative of the person)

odradzać — to advise against — the opposite of radzić, and like it takes the Dative for the person: odradzam ci tę podróż.

to urge, to talk someone into (namawiać kogoś na / do)

namawiać — to urge, to talk someone into: namawiać kogoś na coś / do czegoś.

Forbidding

no way, out of the question

nie ma mowy — no way, out of the question. To say what is ruled out, add żeby: nie ma mowy, żebyś tam poszedł.

ban, prohibition (zakaz parkowania: no parking)

zakaz — ban, prohibition — the noun on signs, followed by the Genitive of a verbal noun: zakaz robienia zdjęć (no photography), zakaz parkowania (no parking).
