Promising and reassuring
daję słowo — I give you my word — the strongest everyday promise. As an infinitive it is dać słowo.
| I give you my word that I will be back on time. | Daję słowo, że wrócę na czas. |
zapewniać — to assure: zapewniam cię, że… (I assure you that…). The person is in the Accusative.
liczyć na + Accusative — to count on: możesz na mnie liczyć (you can count on me), liczę na twoją pomoc.
| You can count on me. | Możesz na mnie liczyć. |
Advising for and against
na twoim miejscu — if I were you (literally "in your place") — is followed by the CONDITIONAL: na twoim miejscu zadzwoniłabym… With pan/pani: na pana miejscu, na pani miejscu.
| If I were you, I would not accept this offer. | Na twoim miejscu nie przyjąłbym tej propozycji. |
odradzać — to advise against — the opposite of radzić, and like it takes the Dative for the person: odradzam ci tę podróż.
namawiać — to urge, to talk someone into: namawiać kogoś na coś / do czegoś.
| My friends are urging me to go on the trip. | Koledzy namawiają mnie na wyjazd. |
Forbidding
nie ma mowy — no way, out of the question. To say what is ruled out, add żeby: nie ma mowy, żebyś tam poszedł.
zakaz — ban, prohibition — the noun on signs, followed by the Genitive of a verbal noun: zakaz robienia zdjęć (no photography), zakaz parkowania (no parking).
