We can turn a verb into a noun by adding the nominalizer particle の after the plain form of the verb. We can then use the verb in constructions where we normally would use a noun.
I'm waiting for him to return. | 彼 が 帰るの を 待って います。kare ga kaeruno o matte imasu. |
Please don't forget that it will rain tomorrow. | 明日 雨 が 降るの を 忘れないで ください。ashita ame ga furuno o wasurenaide kudasai. |
How about seeing a movie? | 映画 を 見るの は どう です か。eiga o miruno wa dou desu ka. |
You can also add の after a plain verb in the past tense or in the negative.
The one that (your) older sister bought is this book. | お姉さん が 買ったの は この 本 です。oneesan ga kattano wa kono hon desu. |
I understood that your mother wouldn't come. | お母さん が 来ないの が 分かりました。okaasan ga konaino ga wakarimashita. |
