Lesson 29: Group 2 verbs

All verbs in Group 2 end in . Note that not all verbs ending in are in Group 2; as we have seen はい belongs in Group 1 even though it ends in .

Verbs in Group 2 are easily transformed into their long form using the following two steps:

  1. Remove from the end of the verb to obtain the stem.
  2. Attach ます to the end of what's left of the verb.

The verbs and べる take direct objects, and does not take an object.

English Japanese
I will watch the king tomorrow. したおうます。
asita ou wo mimasu.
I will eat shellfish. かいべます。
kai wo tabemasu.
Do you eat shellfish? かいべますか?
kai wo tabemasu ka?
I will leave now. いまます。
ima demasu.
