Questions & Answers about Abbiamo nove stanze.
Do I need to change the ending of nove to match the feminine noun stanze?
No. In Italian, the numbers from two to ten (and most higher numbers) never change their endings to match the gender or number of the noun. It is always nove, whether you are counting feminine nouns like nove stanze or masculine nouns like nove libri (nine books). Only the number one changes its form depending on the word that follows it.
What is the singular form of stanze?
Why isn't there a word for "we" before abbiamo?
In Italian, subject pronouns like noi (we) are usually dropped. The verb ending already tells you exactly who is doing the action. Because abbiamo can only mean "we have", adding noi is unnecessary unless you want to add special emphasis.
Abbiamo looks different from standard verb patterns. What is the basic verb here?
The infinitive (the dictionary form) is avere (to have). It is one of the most important irregular verbs in Italian, which means its forms like abbiamo (we have) or ha (he/she has) have to be memorized individually because they do not follow the normal spelling rules for verb endings.
