In formal situations, like helping a customer at a dealership (la concessionaria), you want your instructions to sound like welcoming invitations. You can easily do this by adding the word pure.
Giving Permission with "Pure"
To tell someone to "go ahead and" or "feel free to" do something, simply place pure immediately after the imperative verb. This softens an order into polite permission. When speaking to a client, pair this with the formal (Lei) imperative.
| Welcome to the dealership, please come in! | Benvenuto nella concessionaria, entri pure! |
| Please make yourself comfortable on the sofa. | Si accomodi pure sul divano. |
Exploring the Vehicle
A salesperson will often use this structure to encourage you to interact with a car. They might invite you to examine the vehicle (il veicolo), look at the interior (l'interno), or test out the seat (il sedile).
| Feel free to examine this vehicle. | Esamini pure questo veicolo. |
| Feel free to look at the interior and try the seat. | Guardi pure l'interno e provi il sedile. |
They might also encourage you to open the trunk (il bagagliaio) or the hood (il cofano), or to try the steering wheel (il volante).
| Feel free to open the trunk if you have luggage to put inside. | Apra pure il bagagliaio, se ha bagagli da mettere dentro. |
| Haven't you seen the engine yet? Go ahead and open the hood. | Non ha ancora visto il motore? Apra pure il cofano. |
| Have a seat and feel free to try the steering wheel. | Si sieda e provi pure il volante. |
