Questions & Answers about Var þetta myndband skemmtilegt?
Why do we use þetta instead of þessi here?
Because myndband (video) is a neuter noun. The word for "this" changes to match the gender of the noun it points to. For neuter words, we use þetta, while masculine and feminine words use þessi.
Why does skemmtilegt end with a "-t"?
Just like the word for "this" (þetta), adjectives have to match the gender of the noun they describe. Because myndband is neuter, the adjective takes the neuter ending -t instead of the masculine or feminine form skemmtileg.
How does the word order work for this question?
To make a yes/no question in Icelandic, you just put the verb first! A statement would be Þetta myndband var skemmtilegt (This video was fun). To ask a question, swap the verb and subject: Var þetta myndband skemmtilegt?
What is the literal translation of myndband?
It literally means "picture-tape"! It is a compound word made from mynd (picture or image) and band (tape, ribbon, or string).
