Learn Icelandic: Er nafnið mitt hér?

In Icelandic, possessive pronouns like mitt usually come after the noun. When they do, the noun must have the definite article attached to it. So you say nafnið (the name) followed by mitt (my).

Why is the word for 'my' mitt here instead of minn?

Possessive pronouns have to match the gender of the noun they describe. The word nafn (name) is a neuter noun, so you have to use the neuter form mitt. Minn is the masculine form.

How do we know nafnið mitt is in the Nominative case here?

Why does the verb er come at the very beginning of the sentence?
