The verb vilja (to want) is a special exception. While most helper verbs like þurfa (to need) require að before the next verb (like in ég þarf að prófa), vilja connects directly to the infinitive verb without að.
Why is the word order vilt þú instead of þú vilt?
In Icelandic questions that start with a question word like hvað (what), the verb must come exactly second. This swaps the normal order, putting the verb vilt right after the question word and pushing the subject þú to the third spot.
How does the verb vilja (to want) change for different people?
Vilja is an irregular verb. Here we see þú vilt (you want). For the first person it is ég vil (I want), and for he/she it is hann/hún vill.
I've seen another word for 'to try'. When do I specifically use prófa?
You use prófa when you mean 'to test' or 'to try out' something, like tasting a new food or trying a fun activity. If you mean 'to try' in the sense of making a difficult attempt or putting in serious effort, you would use the verb reyna instead.
