Questions & Answers about Hvenær hittum við ykkur?
Why do we use ykkur instead of þið for 'you all' here?
þið is the subject form, but here 'you all' is the object receiving the action. The verb hitta (to meet) requires its object to be in the accusative case, so we use the accusative plural pronoun ykkur.
Where is the word for 'do' in this sentence?
Why does the subject við come after the verb hittum?
Icelandic follows the V2 rule, meaning the verb is almost always the second piece of information. Since the question word hvenær takes up the first position, the verb hittum must come second, pushing the subject við to the third position.
Why does the verb end in -um?
Verbs in Icelandic change their endings based on who is doing the action. The -um ending on hittum is the standard present tense ending that matches the pronoun við (we).
