Questions & Answers about Slík gagnasöfnun er hættuleg fyrir samfélagið.
Why is slík used here instead of svona or þannig?
Slíkur means the same thing as svona and þannig (such / like this), but it is a formal word used mainly in written Icelandic. While svona and þannig never change their endings, slíkur must be fully inflected to match the gender, number, and case of the noun it describes.
How exactly does slík agree with gagnasöfnun in this sentence?
The base form of the determiner is slíkur. Because gagnasöfnun is a feminine noun in the nominative singular, the determiner drops the masculine -ur ending to become slík. It declines exactly like a strong adjective.
How is the compound noun gagnasöfnun constructed?
Why does fyrir trigger the accusative case for samfélagið here, rather than the dative?
The preposition fyrir can govern either case. It usually takes the dative when describing a static physical position (in front of) or time (ago). However, when it means 'for' in the sense of a target, benefit, or detriment (like being dangerous for someone or something), it takes the accusative case.
