Questions & Answers about Sérðu umferðarljósið? Stígðu á bremsuna núna!
Why is it Sérðu instead of Sér þú?
How does the -ðu ending work in Stígðu?
This is another example of þú attaching to the verb, but this time it's for a command. The imperative (command form) of stíga (to step) is stíg. Because g is a voiced consonant, the attached þú again softens to -ðu, creating Stígðu (step!).
How is the word umferðarljósið built?
It's a compound word made of umferð (traffic) and ljós (light), plus the definite article -ið (the). Notice the -ar in the middle: this is the genitive (possessive) ending of umferð, literally making it a light of traffic.
Why is bremsuna in the accusative case here instead of the dative?
The preposition á takes the accusative case when it implies movement or an action directed onto a destination. Since you are actively moving your foot onto the brake (bremsa), it takes the accusative definite form bremsuna. If your foot were already just resting on the brake with no new motion, it would take the dative case.
