Why does vemos mean we see?
Because vemos is the present tense, nosotros/nosotras form of the verb ver (to see).
- ver = to see
- yo veo = I see
- tú ves = you see
- él/ella ve = he/she sees
- nosotros/nosotras vemos = we see
So vemos un cachorro means we see a puppy.
Why is there no word for we in the sentence?
Spanish often leaves out subject pronouns when they are not needed, because the verb ending already tells you who the subject is.
Here, vemos already shows that the subject is we. So:
- Vemos un cachorro. = We see a puppy.
- Nosotros vemos un cachorro. = also possible, but more emphatic
You would add nosotros only if you want contrast or emphasis, such as We see a puppy, not a cat.
