Why is в магазине used here, and what case is магазине?
В магазине means in the shop/store and uses the prepositional case.
After в, Russian can use different cases depending on meaning:
- в магазине = in the store (location, no movement) → prepositional
- в магазин = into the store (motion toward) → accusative
So here it is в магазине because the sentence tells us where the buying happened, not where someone went.
Why is it мы купили and not some other form of the verb?
Купили is the past tense plural form of купить.
Why plural? Because the subject is мы = we.
In the past tense, Russian verbs agree with the subject in gender/number:
- я купил = I bought (male speaker)
- я купила = I bought (female speaker)
- мы купили = we bought
- он купил = he bought
- она купила = she bought
- они купили = they bought
So мы купили is the normal way to say we bought.
