Questions & Answers about Я ценю твоё время.
What is the infinitive of ценю, and what conjugation pattern does it follow?
ценю comes from the imperfective verb ценить. As an -ить verb, it belongs to the second conjugation:
я – ценю,
ты – ценишь,
он/она – ценит,
мы – ценим,
вы – цените,
они – ценят.
Why is твоё used instead of твой or твоя?
Possessive pronouns in Russian agree in gender, number, and case with their noun. время is neuter and singular, so твой takes its neuter form твоё in the nominative/accusative.
Why is твоё spelled with ё instead of e?
The letter ё signals the “yo” sound and marks the stressed syllable. In many texts ё is replaced by e, but using ё removes ambiguity and shows exactly where to place the stress.
Which case is время in, and why does it look the same as the nominative form?
Here время is a direct object, so it’s in the accusative case. Neuter inanimate nouns have identical nominative and accusative forms, hence время remains unchanged.
How do you pronounce ценю, and where does the stress fall?
Pronounce it [tsɪˈnʲu], with the stress on the second syllable: це-НЮ.
Is ценить imperfective or perfective? Is there a perfective counterpart?
ценить is imperfective, describing an ongoing or habitual action. A rare perfective counterpart is поценить, but it’s seldom used in everyday speech.
How can you make the sentence more polite or formal?
Replace informal твоё with the polite ваше:
Я ценю ваше время.
For extra emphasis you can add intensifiers like очень (“very”) or по-настоящему (“truly”):
Я очень ценю ваше время.
Can you change the word order in this sentence for emphasis?
Yes. Russian word order is flexible. For example:
• Твоё время я ценю – emphasizes “your time.”
• Я твоё время ценю – shifts the focus slightly.
Both variants convey the same core meaning.
