Questions & Answers about Az akkumulátor új.
Hungarian has two forms of the definite article:
- a before a consonant sound
- az before a vowel sound
Because akkumulátor starts with a vowel, you say az akkumulátor.
Compare:
- a ház = the house
- az autó = the car
So az akkumulátor simply means the battery.
In Hungarian, the verb to be is often left out in the present tense when the subject is third person singular or plural and the predicate is a noun or adjective.
So:
- Az akkumulátor új. = The battery is new.
- literally: The battery new.
This is completely normal Hungarian.
But in other persons, the verb appears:
- Én új vagyok. = I am new.
- Te új vagy. = You are new.
And in the past or future, van/volt/lesz is used as needed.
