Questions & Answers about Das Pubquiz beginnt mit einer Quizrunde.
Why is it das Pubquiz?
Pubquiz is a neuter noun in German, so it takes the article das.
This is very common with nouns based on das Quiz, which is also neuter. So:
- das Quiz
- das Pubquiz
German noun gender does not always match natural logic, so this is something you often just learn with the noun.
Why is it mit einer Quizrunde and not mit eine Quizrunde?
Because mit always takes the dative case, and eine changes to einer in the dative feminine singular.
So the base form is:
- eine Quizrunde = a quiz round
After mit, it becomes:
- mit einer Quizrunde = with a quiz round
Since Quizrunde is feminine (die Quizrunde), the article changes like this:
- nominative: eine Quizrunde
- dative: einer Quizrunde
Does mit always use the dative?
