Questions & Answers about Ŝi metas la fulmilon apud la tripiedon.
In Esperanto, -as marks the present tense.
So meti = to put / to place
and metas = puts / is putting
Esperanto does not usually make a separate verb form for English puts versus is putting. The context tells you which sense is meant.
The -n shows the direct object.
In this sentence, la fulmilon is the thing being placed, so it gets the accusative ending:
- la fulmilo = the flash
- la fulmilon = the flash (as the direct object)
This is one of the most important uses of -n in Esperanto.
Apud means beside, next to, or by.
It tells you that something is positioned close to something else. So here it shows the flash being placed next to the tripod.
It usually does not mean on or under—just nearby, at the side.
