Learn Hardcore Danish: Himlen er klar i aften.

'Himlen' is the definite form of 'himmel' (meaning 'the sky'). In Danish, nouns usually get the definite article by adding -en (for common gender words) or -et (for neuter words) at the end. So 'himmel' (indefinite form) becomes 'himlen' (definite form).

What does 'klar' mean in this context?

Here, 'klar' means 'clear' in the sense of there being no clouds in the sky. It can also mean 'bright' in other contexts (like 'et klart billede' – 'a clear picture').

What is the difference between 'i aften' and 'i nat'?

'I aften' means 'this evening', whereas 'i nat' means 'tonight', typically referring to late night hours or the period when most people are sleeping. So you would say 'i aften' for the evening timeframe and 'i nat' when it’s truly nighttime.

Why do we use 'er' and not another verb?

'Er' is the present tense of 'være' (meaning 'to be'), which we use when describing the condition or state of something. Since you’re describing how the sky is at the moment (clear), 'er' is the correct choice.
