Questions & Answers about Natürlich komme ich.

Why is the word order komme ich instead of ich komme?
In German statements, the conjugated verb always has to be in the second position. Because the sentence starts with the word Natürlich in position one, the verb komme must come right after it in position two. The subject ich is then pushed to the third position.
The English translation says "I am coming". Why isn't there a German word for "am" here?
German does not have a separate continuous ("-ing") tense like English does. The single present tense verb komme translates to both "I come" and "I am coming" depending on the context. You never use the German word for "am" alongside another verb to show an action happening right now.
Does Natürlich literally mean "naturally"?
Yes! While it is the most common way to say "of course" in German, it literally means "naturally". You can see the German word for nature (die Natur) right inside it.
