Questions & Answers about September und Oktober sind kühl.
Why aren't there words like der before the months here?
When talking about months in a very general sense, especially when linking them with und, we usually drop the masculine article der. You still use der if you mean a specific one, like der September 2020.
Why is Oktober spelled with a k?
While some months like September and November are spelled exactly like in English, German uses its own spelling rules for others. So October becomes Oktober, March becomes März, and May becomes Mai.
Does kühl mean cold or just cool?
kühl translates to cool, describing a mild chill. If you wanted to say these months are actually cold, you would use the word kalt instead.
Why doesn't kühl have an adjective ending?
Because it comes after the verb sind rather than directly in front of a noun. Adjectives only take endings in German when they are placed right before a noun, like in ein kühler Monat (a cool month).
