Questions & Answers about Wir suchen die Leute.
Why is there no word for 'for' after suchen?
The German verb suchen already means 'to look for' or 'to search for'. You do not need to add an extra word for 'for' (like für). You just put the thing or people you are looking for right after the verb.
Why does the verb suchen end in -en here?
The subject of the sentence is wir (we). For regular verbs in the present tense, the wir form always takes the -en ending. This means it usually looks exactly like the basic dictionary form of the verb.
How do I say 'We look for' instead of 'We are looking for'?
You would still say Wir suchen. German does not have a separate '-ing' form (present continuous tense) like English does. Wir suchen translates to both 'we look for' and 'we are looking for' depending on what makes sense in the context.
Is Leute a plural word?
Yes! die Leute means 'the people' and it acts as a plural noun, just like it does in English.
