Expressing "Whether it be... or..."
To state that a fact remains true regardless of which two alternatives apply, use the fixed phrase sei es ... oder ... (whether it be ... or ...).
The word sei is a subjunctive form of sein (to be). When placed at the start of a sentence, this phrase acts as an introductory element, so the main clause that follows keeps its standard word order.
