Questions & Answers about Le dixième groupe attend encore.
Why does attend mean "waiting" instead of "attending"?
Attendre is a classic false friend. It looks exactly like the English word "attend", but it actually means "to wait" or "to wait for". If you wanted to say "attend" (like a meeting or class), you would use the verb assister à.
Is groupe masculine or feminine? The e at the end makes it look feminine.
How is the x pronounced in dixième?
In dixième, the x is pronounced like an English "z". This is a special pronunciation rule for the ordinal numbers deuxième and dixième. By contrast, in the standalone number dix, it sounds like an "s", and before a word starting with a consonant, it is silent.
Can encore mean things other than "still"?
Yes, encore is a very versatile adverb. In this sentence it means "still" (is still waiting), but depending on the context it frequently means "again" or "yet" (when used with a negative, like pas encore).
