Questions & Answers about Est-ce que vous êtes un suspect ?
Since un suspect is singular, does that mean vous is the formal "you" here?
Why use Est-ce que instead of just asking Êtes-vous un suspect ?
Both are perfectly correct! Putting Est-ce que at the beginning of a statement is the standard, everyday way to ask a question in spoken French. Inverting the verb and subject (Êtes-vous...) is also great, but sounds a bit more formal or literary.
Are the "c" and "t" at the end of suspect pronounced?
No, in the masculine form (un suspect), those final consonants are silent. However, if you were speaking to a woman, you would use the feminine form (une suspecte), and that added -e forces you to clearly pronounce the "ct" at the end.
