Questions & Answers about Pomolla on näkymätön heikkous.
How is the negative participle näkymätön (invisible) formed here?
It is built from the verb näkyä (to be visible). You take the strong stem näky- and add the negative participle suffix -mätön (using front vowels due to vowel harmony).
Why does the sentence use a derivative of näkyä (to be visible) instead of nähdä (to see)?
If you added the negative participle suffix to nähdä, you would get näkemätön, which means "unseeing" (someone who hasn't seen). Because näkyä specifically means "to be visible", its negative form näkymätön correctly translates to "invisible" or "not able to be seen".
How is the noun heikkous formed?
It is created by taking the adjective heikko (weak) and adding the suffix -us. This suffix acts just like the English suffix "-ness", turning the descriptive word into the noun "weakness".
As a quick refresher, why is "the boss has" translated as Pomolla on?
Finnish lacks a direct verb for "to have". Instead, it uses the adessive case (pomo + -lla) followed by the verb on (is). Literally, this structure translates to "On the boss is".
