Questions & Answers about Johtajan on käsiteltävä asia viipymättä.
Why is the subject johtajan in the genitive case?
In Finnish obligation structures that use on plus a passive present participle like käsiteltävä, the person who has to perform the action is always put into the genitive case.
How is käsiteltävä formed, and what role does it play here?
It is the passive present participle of the verb käsitellä (to process). It is formed by adding the participle ending -vä to the passive stem. Combined with johtajan on, it creates the strong obligation meaning the manager must process.
Why is the object asia in the nominative case instead of the accusative asian?
In necessity and obligation sentences, such as this on tehtävä structure, a total object drops its typical -n ending. Therefore, we use the basic nominative form asia rather than asian.
How does viipymättä translate to without delay?
It is built from the verb viipyä (to linger or delay). The ending -mättä is a verb form meaning without doing something. Literally, it translates to without lingering.
